NATURAL COLOUR DIAMONDS

The word diamond comes from the Greek word "adamas" meaning 'unconquerable'. Diamonds are the hardest natural substance known to man. They can be cut or polished only by other diamonds. Ancient Romans thought that whoever wore a diamond on his or her left arm would become braver and more daring. The April birthstone has long been associated with courage, strength and fortitude.

Being the hardest gemstone, diamonds achieve the top spot -10- on Mohs scale of hardness. Due to its hardness, diamond is suitable for a number of important industrial applications, as well as, including serving as drill bits, glass cutters, cutting other diamonds and in construction of saw blades.

Natural color diamonds are renowned for their incomparable brilliance and broad palette of colors including pink, brown, red, purple, yellow, green and blue. The presence of color in these diamonds is entirely natural process ensuring that every stone is one of a kind.

Color Classification-

Diamonds are not truly colorless, but it's the colorless often called white. The other shades of diamonds are judged against white color. GIA has devised a set of guidelines to grade diamond color. The commercial classification of colored diamonds uses the alphabet system ranging from D to Z. As the grades starts reaching Z, the price starts decreasing.

Colored Diamond Details-

Pink Diamonds- The Argyle mind, located in Western Australia, produces almost the entire World's red and pink diamonds. Pink diamonds are rare they owe their color to the irregular patterns which cause very tiny imperfections within the structure. Due to the rarity of natural pink diamonds, they tend to be more expensive of the fancy colors.

Yellow Diamonds-

They get their color from nitrogen impurities. Fancy yellow diamonds can command prices as high as D-color white stones or more. Diamonds with colors below the Z range have a yellow color that is considered an asset and are graded in the fancy color range.

Blue Diamond-

Natural blue diamond come in variety of hues .Often blue diamonds are light in color or are a light grayish blue which is closer to a "steely" blue color. The lighter color of blue the diamond has the more valuable it is. It's the second rarest color of diamond after red.

Green Diamond-

Green diamonds are mostly found in South Central Africa. These diamonds have been exposed neutron radiation for several years to get their hue. The Ocean Green Diamond and the Dresden Green Diamond have pure and intense hues.

Red Diamond-

Red diamonds are the rarest of the colored diamonds. They are so rare that most jewelers around the world have never seen a natural red diamond. The most famous red diamond is the Hancock Red Diamond found in Brazil which weighed only 0.95 carats

Pricing-

Pricing of colored diamonds can be astounding. It's known that they are more expensive than colorless diamonds, but the truth is that the range is huge. Take your time when buying a diamond, it will save your money and you will be able to find a diamond of your dreams within your budget.
