VINTAGE JEWELRY by MIRIAM HASKELL

From COLLECTICS.COM comes this information about Miriam Haskell's jewelry:

Miriam Haskell jewelry has always been noted for the detailing and often, asymmetry of her designs. These were time-consuming to produce and hence costly.

A good deal of the earlier pieces from Miriam Haskell were unsigned. That does make it hard to know if the piece you want to buy is authentic, as is the case with so much vintage jewelry. The experts however will know what to look for i.e. specific design features that tell one designer from another and a true Miriam Haskell from a look-a-like.

"Quality was always evident, with finer quality materials and all prong set in the design. Haskell jewelry is known for its use of elaborate filigree and careful wiring, all handmade and accommodating a variety of designs. Haskell filigree was typically electroplated goldtone metal in an antique gold finish. She purchased her beads mostly from France and Venice, Italy, while most crystals came from Bohemia."

From my own observations in researching and buying Miriam Haskell pieces, I can see her bead lines are very much in demand, especially those made with baroque pearls. It's important to find out if a piece you're considering has lost any of the finish on the beads as they're not easily replaced. I'm also intrigued by the variations in Miriam Haskell's jewelry, as seen in the photos below. There's something for all tastes in jewelry, from rich looking pearls and beads to large, sometimes overly large pendants (like the Egyptian one) to fine china cameo pendants.

The items below are shown to give you an idea of Haskell's variations. Some of this jewelry is in our SHOP at RUBY LANE. Some, like the blue glass beads below and the exquisite 3-piece parure have already been sold.
